Solar lights are the easiest way to add light to any area of your yard.  Installation is simple because solar light systems are safe and easy to work with. Typical kits include a solar panel that allows rechargeable batteries to be charged by the light of the sun during the day.  There is a light sensor on the unit itself that allows them to turn on at dusk and turn off at dawn.   They are virtually maintenance fee lights.

Before you buy your solar lights you should walk around with a flashlight and study your yard at night. Shine it on key features from different angles. Beam the light up into trees and shrubs, Illuminate your front gate.  Note which areas are spooky that may need to be lit. Your choice of fixtures is vast: globes, tiers, tulips, spots, floods—even underwater lights for ponds. Shop around a bit before you buy.

After you get your lights, all you have to do it take them out of the box, put them together if they need assembling and place them in the areas you mapped out.   The only requirement is that they need to be exposed to direct sunlight for about 4-6 hours to charge the batteries.   The batteries that come with the unit are usually fully charged so they are ready out of the box.

You should allow a few days to determine whether you get the effect you want from your lights.   If during the lighting session, you determine one or more need to be moved, pull them up and relocate them.   The next day, determine whether they still will get sunlight to re-charge the batteries.   If not, you may need to move them so that they do.  It may take some trial and error before you are fully satisfied with the whole arrangement, but after that you will enjoy many hours of enjoyment knowing your yard is lit and it doesn’t affect your utility bill.

Solar Outdoor Lighting

Solar outdoor lighting consists of many different light styles, including hanging lanterns, walkway stake lights, and fence post lamps. All can be used in a variety of ways to create many interesting effects.
Here are a few possible techniques:
•Silhouette – by lighting up a tree, statue, or fountain from behind, a dark and dramatic silhouette is created.
•Shadow – lighting up the same garden feature from the front will cast its elegant shadow on a garden wall or other surface.
•Downlight – accomplish this by hanging a light from a lamp post or the eaves of a house and shining it down. This is used more for security purposes than for decorative ones.
•Cross – by positioning two separate lights at the base of a garden feature it can be attractively highlighted. The use of multiple lights works to soften the shadows.
Most of the abovementioned solar outdoor lighting techniques work best with solar spot lights, since they tend to be the brightest. However, if there is little other ambient lighting, other solar light options may work as well. Hanging solar lights and step lights can both make a path more visible and therefore less treacherous. On top of this, they often act as interesting garden accents in and of themselves.
Solar outdoor lighting is a very practical way to use the power of the sun to light up the night. Many solar outdoor lights come with darkness sensors which automatically turn them on at night. This renders them incredibly low maintenance.
Along with there being no need to worry about turning them on or off, there is also no need to worry about paying for the cost of fuel or electricity. They are completely free to run. This is one of the most valued features of solar outdoor lighting.
